Building Permit Types

Below are available permit applications.

Residential Building Permit
Residential building permits are required for projects such as: new homes, additions, interior remodels, new garages or carports, demolition, new sheds or storage buildings, decks, patio covers, gazebos, fences (over 7 ft high), and any roofing, or solar service work.

Commercial Building Permit
Commercial building permits are required for projects such as: new commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. This permit type also include; multi-family structures, commercial additions/expansions, accessory commercial structures, tenant finishes/improvements, change of occupancy/use, structural alterations, demolition, accessibility improvements (ADA), solar installations, or fire protection work.

Mechanical Permit
A mechanical permit is required for mechanical work associated with or independent of a building permit. This includes the installation, replacement, repair, or modification of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and related equipment. Common examples of work that typically requires a Mechanical Permit include: Installing or replacing furnaces, air conditioners, or heat pumps Mini-split systems Boilers, unit heaters, or baseboard/in-floor heating Ductwork installation or modifications Gas-fired appliances connected to HVAC systems Mechanical permits help ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable building and mechanical codes. Additional permits may be required depending on the scope of the project.

Electrical Permit
An electrical permit is required for most electrical work, whether it is part of a larger building project or a standalone upgrade or repair. This includes installing, replacing, or modifying electrical wiring, panels, circuits, outlets, lighting, or similar electrical components in a home. Common examples of work that typically requires an Electrical Permit include: Electrical panel upgrades or replacements Installing new circuits, outlets, or lighting Adding or replacing hard-wired appliances EV charger installations Hot tubs, spas, or pool electrical connections Generator connections or transfer switches Electrical permits help ensure work is completed safely and meets current electrical and building code requirements. Depending on the project, additional permits may be required.

Plumbing Permit
A plumbing permit is required for plumbing work associated with or independent of a building permit. This includes the installation, replacement, repair, or modification of plumbing systems such as fixtures, water supply lines, drain and waste piping, and related components. Common examples of work that typically requires a Plumbing Permit include: Installing or replacing sinks, toilets, tubs, or showers Water heater installation or replacement New or modified water or sewer lines Gas piping associated with plumbing appliances Remodels involving plumbing fixture relocation Plumbing permits help ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable plumbing and building codes. Additional permits may be required depending on the scope of the project.

Roof Permit
A roofing permit is required for roof replacements, structural changes, or major repairs to a structure to ensure the project meets safety and fire codes. It mandates an inspection to verify that materials, ventilation, and installation methods comply with local standards. It also documents the scope of work and contractor credentials to guarantee the roof is legally compliant and structurally sound.

Solar Permit
A solar Permit is required for the installation, modification, or replacement of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on residential or commercial structures or properties. This permit is also utilized for Utility Scale Solar projects. This permit applies to solar panel installations only and does not authorize structural alterations, roof replacement, service upgrades, or other electrical work not directly related to the solar system. All installations must comply with applicable building, electrical, and zoning regulations.
